On the first day of play at Wimbledon, Djokovic opened play under Center Court to win his fourth straight SW19 title and first Grand Slam of the year.
The first seed win over Kwon may not have been as routine as some expected. First, when he came out of a breakdown in the first set, Kwon equalized by taking the second set.
Djokovic began to find his rhythm towards the end of the fourth and ended the victory with a break in the middle of the fourth – shortly after he had saved three break points on his own serve.
With this victory, Djokovic has won 22 consecutive Wimbledon victories, a streak that dates back to the 2017 quarter-finals. In the second round, he will face either Thanasi Kokkinakis or Kamil Mayhrzak.
