Israel: ISIS attack kills two and wounds six in Hadera

The attack – the second of its kind in a week – coincided with a landmark regional summit in Israel’s Negev desert, where senior diplomats from the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, Egypt, Israel and the United States meet to discuss security issues.

“We condemn today’s terrorist attack in Hadera, Israel” US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken wrote Sunday from Israel. ‚ÄúSuch senseless acts of violence and killing have no place in society. We support our Israeli partners and express our condolences to the families of the victims.”

ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, according to SITE Intelligence Group, citing a report by ISIS-affiliated news agency Amaq. Amaq posted a still from a video circulating on social media showing two masked men swearing allegiance to an ISIS leader ahead of the attack.

According to SITE, Amaq called the attack “a double immersive diversionary attack by Islamic State militants.”

The two attackers, who were shot dead by Israeli police, were from the Israeli Arab city of Umm el-Fahm, in the northern district of Haifa. An Israeli police spokesman said operatives opened fire on local police in Hadera, killing two bystanders. Police said the victims were members of the border police.

“Some time ago, two terrorists arrived on Herbert Samuel Street in Hadera and opened fire on the local police. As a result of the shooting, the death of 2 passers-by was established,” the spokesman said.

“Undercover forces arrived on the scene, made contact and neutralized the terrorists after a brief firefight,” the spokesman added.

Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera said six people were injured in the attack, two of whom are in serious condition.

On Tuesday, an Arab-Israeli attacker killed four people in a stabbing attack in the southern Israeli city of Beer Sheva before he was fatally shot by a passerby, according to Israeli police. According to the Israeli judiciary, the attacker had previously been arrested for supporting ISIS.
