Footballer Paul Pogba’s allegations of extortion and threats are being investigated by French police.

Pogba alleged the extortion through his legal team in a statement obtained by CNN on Monday.

A prosecutor’s office spokesman told CNN that an investigation was launched earlier this month. “I can confirm that an investigation was initiated on August 3, 2022, in particular, on charges of extortion as part of an organized group and attempted extortion as part of an organized group,” the message says.

“Investigative actions were entrusted to OZBK,” the prosecutor’s office continued. OCLCO is a French judicial police unit responsible for investigating organized crime.

Pogba’s announcement came after his brother Matias Pogba posted a series of videos on Instagram in English, French, Spanish and Italian in which he stated he would make “great revelations” about the behavior of his brother and Rafaela Pimenta, his agent.

In his Saturday video, Matias said: “The French, Italian and English public… and even more, the French national team and the Juventus team, my brother’s teammates and his sponsors deserve to know certain things in order to make an informed decision.” if he deserves the admiration, respect and love of the public. Does he deserve his place in the French team and the honor of playing in the World Cup … If he is a trustworthy person that any player would like to have next to him And, finally, is he worthy that young people and, of course, big brands perceive it as a representative model?”

Paul Pogba’s statement, signed by his lawyers, his mother Yo Moriba and Pimenta, reads: “Unfortunately, Mathias Pogba’s recent social media posts are not a surprise and follow other attempts to extort Paul Pogba over a long period.

“The facts were reported to the Italian and French police a month ago and there will be no further comment on the ongoing investigations.”

Matthias responded to messages about the investigation in series of tweets which began with the words: “It’s what I’ve been waiting for: my little brother is finally starting to show his true colors.”

CNN reached out to Matthias Pogba for additional comment, but he did not respond immediately.

Paul Pogba, 29, returned to Juventus in Italy’s Serie A in July after six years with Manchester United in the English Premier League. Juventus have not commented on the situation.
