An adorable padmelon baby has been born at Chester Zoo.

In fact, the baby was born a few months ago, but zookeepers first caught him looking out of his mother’s bag. The zoo, located in Chester, England, shared a video of Joey sticking his head out. on twitter.

The dusky padamelon is a marsupial that lives on the islands around Indonesia and New Guinea. It’s kind of like a miniature kangaroo. Pademelone is born the size of a jelly bean, the zoo said. When the child reaches adulthood, he will be a little less than two feet tall.

Like kangaroos, pademolon cubs spend the first few months of their life safely nestled in their mother’s pouch. according to the zoo. It will be a few more weeks before guests can see Joey hopping around the enclosure alone.

The pademolon population has declined by 30% in the last twenty years, mainly due to hunting. This species is recognized as “Vulnerable” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
